Lady Ra - Beats without Borders, Vancouver, BC

Lady Ra emerged in 1996 via CFRU 93.3 fm in Guelph, Ontario, Canada .
Freshly trained on antiquated community radio equipment and given free reign of the extensive music library, each show she was able to program was a revelation. Ethnic flavours quickly emerged as her primary passion.
Upon relocating to Vancouver, Canada, she cofounded the Beats Without Borders Collective. She has both hosted and shared the stage with musical wizards such as Gaudi, Makyo, SubSwara, Nickodemus, and others too many to count.
She travels both overland and underground, to places both near and far; Yemen, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Spain, Cuba, India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia being but a few. She does so with her ear to the ground, seeking out and weaving old and new world sounds into rich musical tapestries hailing from the Four Corners of Earth.
FatChanceBellyDance

Since the creation of FatChanceBellyDance by Carolena Nericcio in 1987, the troupe has fascinated audiences worldwide with their exciting improvisational technique. Carolena has refined a montage of different "tribal" elements into what has been coined American Tribal Style bellydance. The range of Carolena's comprehensive instructional videos, her interactive video consultation with remote students and teachers, as well as FCBD's commitment to out of town workshops have spread FCBD's American Tribal Style technique and philosophy around the globe.
Through their participation in dance festivals, collaborative productions with other artists, and benefit shows for community events, as well as private performances, FCBD has established a strong professional reputation in and out of the Bay Area for performing as well.
In January 2000, Carolena opened the FCBD Studio, Store and Resource Center in San Francisco. Beginning through Advanced classes are offered weekly and the company hosts several Student Salons thoughout the year. The studio is also home to a variety of dancers for professional rehearsal and private rental.
Carolena Nericcio and FatChanceBellyDance have become respected innovators in the belly dance community as well as the San Francisco dance community through their dedication to performance and instruction.
DJ Amar
Amar is amongst a handful of local DJs whose taste cuts a path through an abundance of musical selections and leads dancefloors into a hypnotic sway like snakes before the charmer. In this instance the muse is a masala that brews sounds from the Middle East and Balkans with rhythms of the Asian underground and electric Brazilian vibes. Whether its breaks, bhangra, house, drum & bass or downtempo the global nature of Amar’s sets bridges a multi-culti span from the world to the Bay Area.
